Popular Farmer's 'MarCat' Returns to Campus
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 13, 2012) — Agriculture and sustainability play important roles in Kentucky. The Farmer's "MarCat" and Sustainability Fair, featuring Kentucky Proud Farms, will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, April 16, on the Student Center Patio. This event is a collaboration between the Student Activities Board Engaging Issues Committee and Alpha Phi Omega.
New to the MarCat is a recipe contest held earlier this semester. Students submitted an original recipe using three or more local products. Recipes submitted were a collection of appetizers, entrees and desserts. The winning recipe will be presented and featured at the Farmer's MarCat.
“This is a great opportunity for students to learn about locally grown products without having to go far off campus to do so,” said Sarah Jones, Student Activities Board director of Engaging Issues.
Student and community organizations will also be available to distribute additional information about sustainability and local growing efforts as well as ways for students to get involved.
The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
