Reminder About Campus Motor Scooter, Moped and Motorcycle Regulations

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 21, 2018) — As warm weather returns to the Bluegrass, University of Kentucky Transportation Services and the University of Kentucky Police Department would like to remind the campus community about regulations and policies pertaining to motorcycles, mopeds and motor scooters operating and parking on campus.

Operators of motorcycles, mopeds and motor scooters at the University of Kentucky must:

  • Adhere to Kentucky state motor vehicle laws, local laws and university regulations;
  • Purchase and display a University of Kentucky motorcycle (M) parking permit; and
  • Park only in designated motorcycle areas marked by the presence of signage, green lines or both. A motorcycle (M) permit parking map can be found here:  www.uky.edu/transportation/parking-info_parking-maps.

As a reminder, motorcycles, mopeds and motor scooters may not operate on sidewalks, pedestrian walkways, bike paths or lawns, nor park at bike racks or non-motorcycle designated parking.

These policies are designed to promote a safe, pedestrian-friendly campus by ensuring that motor vehicles operate only in designated areas which are independent from the campus core and other heavily congested pedestrian areas.

M permits are $11 per month and may be obtained by visiting the Transportation Services offices in the Press Avenue Garage (721 Press Avenue).
