Start-to-Finish mentorship program now accepting new applicants

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 15, 2023) — The Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives (CGPDI) is excited to launch another year of the Start-to-Finish (STF) mentorship program. STF is a mentorship initiative for diverse and historically underrepresented populations in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. This is a joint effort between the CGPDI, the Graduate Student Congress (GSC) and The Graduate School to provide support for all levels of mentoring. STF leadership team would like to invite you to be a participant in this sponsored mentorship opportunity at the University of Kentucky.

The program has two tiers of engagement: faculty and staff are able to mentor graduate-level students in the first tier, and graduate students are able to mentor undergraduates in the second tier. Participants are matched by STF leadership, weighing preferred identity backgrounds and field of study to help connect the best pair in mentorship. This multi-tiered program model seeks to provide participants with tools and resources for navigating higher education, developing professional mindsets, and achieving academic success. If you would like to be a mentor/mentee, please complete the brief 3-5 minute registration form linked below.

Submit your application no later than Sept. 25 to receive an invitation to the Start-to-Finish kickoff event where you can meet your mentor and/or mentee.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
