UHS Open House to Offer $10 Flu Shots for Students

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 11, 2013) - University Health Service will offer $10 flu shots to students at Tuesday's PAWS Center Open House.

The PAWs Center, a health education resource center for students, is located on the first floor of the UHS building at 830 S. Limestone St. The open house will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

"The CDC is reporting higher than usual numbers of flu cases across the United States," said Fadyia Lowe, health education coordinator at UHS. "We want to encourage every student to get a flu shot to help prevent them from getting the flu. We hope that students will take advantage of this opportunity to get a flu shot and learn more about the services we offer."

In addition to flu shots, students can explore the center's health education models, connect with campus resources, check their blood pressure, get free cold and flu kits (while supplies last) and grab a free lunch.

Flu shots are $10 with a valid student ID. Students can pay with plus account, cash, credit card, or check. Students who have the student insurance plan through Academic Health Plans can receive a vaccine for no charge with a valid United Healthcare insurance card.

The event is sponsored by University Health Service, the PAWS Center and the Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC).
