UK to close at noon Friday, March 3; Critical operations remain open
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 3, 2023) — In the interest of the safety and well-being of the campus community, the University of Kentucky will close early at noon Friday, March 3, due to inclement weather.
In-person classes and activities beginning at noon and after are canceled will not take place on campus. If students have questions about their online class status, they should contact their instructor.
On-campus employees except Plan B (designated) employees are dismissed at noon. If employees have questions about procedures for their work, they should contact their manager.
The Johnson Center and Alumni Gym will close at noon. The Gatton Student Center will close at 10 p.m. today.
Critical operations will remain open:
- UK HealthCare facilities remain open and are operating on regular schedule.
- Champions Kitchen and Fresh Food Company will remain open until 8 p.m., per usual operating hours. Other dining locations will close at noon.

Identify your safe shelter location now ahead of severe weather. In the event of a severe storm or tornado warning, follow these protocols:
- Protect yourself from lightning and flying debris — seek shelter immediately.
- Stop what you’re doing and move to an interior room or hallway on the building’s lowest level.
- Avoid outside doors and windows.
- If you are on campus, find recommended shelter locations marked on the emergency floor plans posted throughout campus buildings.
