UK launches online hazing awareness, prevention training for employees
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 24, 2026) — As part of its ongoing commitment to student and employee well-being, the University of Kentucky has launched a comprehensive online training course focused on hazing awareness and prevention.
The initiative supports the university’s broader efforts to foster a safe, respectful campus environment, while also meeting federal requirements related to hazing education.
The training is being introduced through a phased rollout.
New students were asked to complete the course during the fall semester, with access expanded to all students at the beginning of the spring semester. Now, all university employees — including those within UK HealthCare — are required to complete the approximately 50-minute course.
Unlike many required trainings, this course is a one-time requirement. New employees will complete it as part of their onboarding process — ensuring awareness and prevention strategies are embedded from the start of their time at the university.
Participation is mandatory under both university policy and federal guidelines.
By equipping the campus community with a shared understanding of what constitutes hazing — as well as practical strategies for prevention and intervention — university leaders aim to reduce harm and strengthen accountability across all areas of campus life.
“We all contribute to preventing hazing and creating a safe and supportive campus environment,” said Dan Bureau, associate vice president for student well-being. “Courses like this help the UK community learn important skills that can be applied to reduce harm and eliminate problematic behaviors. Hazing is an issue that shows up in many places, and arming our campus community with skills to intervene is essential.”
Employees will receive an email from myUK Learning with instructions for accessing the course. The training requires internet access with audio capabilities and can be completed in multiple sittings. All employees must complete the course by Aug. 15.
