UK Monitoring Winter Weather Situation

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 6, 2013) — With Lexington under a Winter Storm Watch and ice and snow in the forecast, Eric Monday, University of Kentucky executive vice president for finance and administration, issued a message to the campus community Thursday, Dec. 5, to let students, staff and faculty know that UK is monitoring the weather event.  The full message is below:

The University of Kentucky is closely monitoring the significant winter weather system moving toward Kentucky.  The UK Police Division of Crisis Management and Preparedness is working with the National Weather Service, UK's College of Agriculture meteorologists, and local and state law enforcement agencies for the most updated information.

Our highest priority is the safety of our students, staff, faculty and visitors. Based on the best available weather information, we will make a decision at the appropriate time regarding the cancellation of classes and closure of offices.

Information about early cancellation of classes and closure of offices will be announced to all students, faculty and staff in several ways as soon as a decision is made by University officials:

The cancelation and closure announcement will also be available on UK cable TV channels 16 and 49 and WUKY, UK's NPR station.  The information will also be sent to local radio and television stations.
