UK Students Urged to Get Flu Shot at Campus Clinics Beginning Oct. 6
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 30, 2015) — University Health Service (UHS) will begin providing flu shots to students for $10 with a valid student ID beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6 at various campus sites and by appointment at UHS.
UK faculty and staff (non-medical campus) can also receive flu shots at the sites below for $20. All medical campus faculty and staff are required to receive the flu vaccination and will receive it for free at dates and times to be announced at a later date.
Students can pay with a plus account, credit card, cash or check. Students who have the student insurance plan through Academic Health Plans can receive a vaccine for free if they show a valid insurance card.
Flu shots are available:
Tuesday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Chem/Phys Room 114 B
Wednesday, Oct. 7, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., W.T. Young Gallery Room
Thursday, Oct. 8, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., UHS First Floor Lobby
Wednesday, Oct. 21, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Johnson Center Lobby
Tuesday, Oct. 27, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., W.T. Young Gallery Room
Wednesday, Oct. 29, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., UHS First Floor Lobby
If a student cannot attend one of the clinics, call 859-323-APPT (2778) to make an appointment at UHS.
In addition to getting vaccinated, other strategies to avoiding getting sick include:
- Wash hands frequently
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers
- Disinfect high-use areas like phones, door knobs, and light switches
- Eat a well-balanced diet
- Exercise regularly (at least 30 minutes, 4-5 times per week)
- Get adequate sleep (7-8 hours per night)
