University Drive Restriping Results in New Bike Facilities

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 10, 2012) ― Portions of University Drive south of Cooper Drive and from Huguelet Avenue to Woodland Avenue were recently restriped, changing the lane configurations to add bike lanes, vertical signage and sharrows (shared lane markings indicating shared usage for bikes and motorized vehicles).

These changes are designed to extend the existing bicycle lanes on University Drive further south and connect gaps in the campus and city’s existing bicycle routes, says UK Parking and Transportation. Visit the campus bicycle facility map (PDF) for a comprehensive look at the campus bicycle network.

In the area south of Cooper Drive, the lane reconfiguration also resulted in the addition of 47 employee parking spaces, with 22 along the west side and 25 on the east.
