Upcoming lane closures and parking impact: Cooper and University drives

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 23, 2026) — Utility crews are expected to begin relocating transmission, distribution and telecom lines across Cooper and University drives as early as this Sunday, Oct. 25. This work is associated with the Chandler Hospital Expansion Project and will require intermittent lane closures on both roadways.
These closures will take place during overnight hours, 6 p.m.-6 a.m. Crews anticipate keeping one lane open whenever possible, with flaggers on-site to direct traffic and assist pedestrians. The work is expected to continue through Thursday, Oct. 29. However, it is weather-dependent, so those dates could change slightly.
Approximately 75 parking spaces in the northwest corner of the North Red Lot will also be unavailable during this time and will be used to accommodate cable reels and cable pulling equipment.
