LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 16, 2017) — This week, members of the Class of 2021 are moving to a campus that has been transformed with student success at its core.

During the past six years, the University of Kentucky has invested more than $2.3 billion in facilities designed to support students. New residence halls, innovative classrooms and learning spaces, along with modern lab space create boundless opportunities for our newest Wildcats to learn, discover and grow.

Part of this investment is made possible through a gift from Carol Martin "Bill" Gatton to support a state-of-the-art student center that will open in 2018. This facility will offer a brand new "living room" for the entire UK family to connect, learn and socialize.

With students already moving onto campus, UKNow wanted to spend some time with University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto to get his thoughts on the upcoming academic year.

Since UK's president loves to walk the campus, we caught up with him on a recent stroll to talk about what he finds most exciting about the new student center and why the overall physical transformation of campus is about so much more than aesthetics. Watch the first two segments of our walk (featured in the playlist above) to discover how this new and improved campus will create opportunities and build community for the entire UK family. Be sure to check back in next week to watch the rest of our "Campus Walk" with President Capilouto, which will be featured on the UK YouTube channel.

These videos are part of a new, bimonthly UKNow series called "Campus Walks." The idea is to get out of the office and onto campus with members of the UK community, so we can have in-depth, authentic conversations about our university with the people working so hard to advance our mission of education, research and service.

If there is someone on campus you would like to see featured on a future "Campus Walk," please email us
