LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 28. 2018) — This spring, the University of Kentucky will open the doors to a new state-of-the-art student center. Located on the corner of South Limestone and Avenue of Champions, the $201 million project encompasses a new fitness center in the historic Alumni Gym, a social staircase, a new UK Bookstore and many retail dining options.

Eric N. Monday, UK executive vice president for finance and administration, says this space is all about fostering a sense of belonging on campus.

"Everything we do is centered around how do we build the best environment — physically and emotionally," Monday said. "For our students to cross that stage and go out and have those careers and live lives of meaning and purpose … this is a small part of that."

UKNow recently took a walk through the Student Center with Monday to learn more about the project and what he calls the "living room for the campus." Watch the video above to hear why he's excited to open the doors of the Student Center.

This video is part of a new, bi-monthly UKNow series called "Campus Walks." The idea is to get out of the office and onto campus with members of the UK community, so UKNow can have in-depth, authentic conversations about the university with the people working so hard to advance its mission of education, research and service.
