Water Expected to be Restored to South Campus by Midnight

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 18, 2011) — Water is expected to be restored to south campus before midnight tonight, however, residents are being cautioned not to drink the tap water without boiling it until the lines have been flushed.  Flyers reflecting a boiled water advisory will be distributed in the affected residence areas.

A water main break in the Cooperstown area of campus resulted in Kentucky American Water Company turning water off to the Cooperstown graduate student housing complex; the Blanding Towers and Complex; Baldwin, Ingels, and Smith Halls while they work on the break.  Water has also been turned off to the W.T. Young Library, which is now closed and is expected to reopen at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19.

UK Housing has been working with some 2,500 residents affected by the water shut-off.  They suggest undergraduate housing residents contact their front desk or hall directors with questions about the water outage.  Cooperstown residents can call the Fix-It number at 323-4948.

University of Kentucky Police also report that Cooperstown Drive between Oldham Court and Sports Center Drive has been closed as Kentucky American Water Company addresses the water main break, but it is expected to reopen before midnight as well.
