WUKY, 91.3 FM News Team Continues Award-winning Ways in 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 18, 2012) ― The news team of WUKY, the University of Kentucky's NPR station, recently won two of broadcasting's most coveted honors, the Edward R. Murrow Awards.  The WUKY news department also is the recipient of several 2012 Kentucky Associated Press Awards.

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow's pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.

This year, RTDNA judges awarded 645 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 14 categories.  Awards are organized by medium (radio, television, online) and by market size (small and large.)

Last week, WUKY picked up two of these prestigious awards when the RTDNA announced the regional Murrow Award winners. WUKY was judged in Region 8 in small market radio.

Reporter and morning news anchor Brenna Angel's story "Lexington Family's Tragedy Results in DOD Changes" won in the the Audio Investigative Reporting category and her story "Trainers and Jockeys Reflect on Keeneland Racing" won in the Use of Sound category.

The awards continued on April 14, 2012 at the Kentucky Associated Press Broadcasters annual awards banquet.  These awards honor the best of broadcast journalism in the state of Kentucky.

  • Continuing Coverage – Brenna Angel

Honorable Mention

  • Political Coverage – Brenna Angel and Alan Lytle
