Art Blooms at the UK Art Museum

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 21, 2013) — Every February, floral designers transform the Art Museum at the University of Kentucky into a garden of floral delights, with galleries filled with fine art and fresh flowers. Art in Bloom, the museum's primary fundraiser, which runs Feb. 22 through 24 with 50 floral designers who create a paradise for the winter-weary public eager for the advent of spring.
As part of Art in Bloom, designers will interpret works of art from the museum's permanent collection and the special exhibition "Art and the Animal." The floral designs will be available for viewing from noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Admission is $5.
This year's event will honor John Gardner, senior vice president - C complex manager, Wells Fargo Advisors LLC, for his support of the arts across Kentucky. In particular, he was influential in founding the "Arts in Harmony" partnership between the Art Museum at UK and the Lexington Philharmonic.
The Art in Bloom signature artist, Ann Rutherford Pass, a local educator and painter, created and donated a work of art to the museum. Pass is an impressionistic painter who focuses on serene, tranquil landscapes. She has studied with many renowned impressionists and currently maintains a studio in the Artists' Attic at Victorian Square.
Friday night from 7-10 p.m., "An Evening of Elegance Black-Tie Gala" will feature a dinner and live auction for Art in Bloom sponsors. Tickets for this event are $500.
Saturday night from 7:30-10:30 p.m., "A Night on the Town Cocktail Reception" will feature live music by Dan Jackson, a fashion show by Bella Rose and designer Maui Crane, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a silent auction. Tickets for this event are $100 and $75 for the "under 40 crowd." Tickets for both events are available at 859-257-6218.
On Sunday, Feb. 24, four local artists, Kelly Brewer, Mary Seymour Neely, Ann Rutherford Pass and Cate Wagoner, will set up their easels in the museum to paint floral designs which inspire them. This event is free with Sunday's $5 admission fee.
