LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 22, 2011) — Harold Kleinert, executive director of the University of Kentucky's Human Development Institute (HDI), has been elected to serve as an at-large member on the national board of directors of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD).

[IMAGE2]HDI is UK's Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. Since its inception, the institute has worked to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. Promoting independence, productivity, and inclusion throughout life for persons with disabilities and their families requires leadership and the courage to be creative innovators.

The AUCD is a membership organization that supports and promotes a national network of university-based interdisciplinary programs, including 67 centers for excellence.

"This is a great honor and will provide another venue for Dr. Kleinert’s leadership, knowledge, and enthusiasm to positively impact the field of developmental disabilities at a national level," said Kathy Sheppard-Jones, HDI training director and adjunct assistant professor in the UK Rehabilitation Counseling program.
