Important Deadlines for Future Wildcats

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 10, 2012) –The day after Valentine's Day is an important date for students who want to "see blue." this fall!

All incoming freshmen are encouraged to go online to apply for admission by the priority deadline of Wednesday, Feb. 15.  However, officials stress that this is only a priority deadline and applications will still be accepted after this date.

To find out more about applying for admission to UK, watch this "how to" video.

Feb. 15 is also the priority deadline for the application for federal need-based financial aid including scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study opportunities. Students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible!

The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Students/parents who have not finished their 2011 taxes can fill out the FAFSA with extimated tax information.  They will just need to update their forms on the same Web site after completing their taxes.

"Whether submitting the initial FAFSA or correcting previously submitted data, students and parents who have completed their 2011 tax returns are strongly encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool available on the FAFSA website to import their 2011 tax information," said UK Office of Student Financial Aid Director Lynda Geoge.  "Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool will lessen the likelihood that the students’ FAFSA applications will be selected for verification."

The important dates continue for prospective students into March.

For fall 2012, the Flagship and Provost Scholarships are automatically awarded to students with qualifying scores based on their admission application and information. However, those students must be admitted and have their qualifying scores sent to UK by March 1.

In addition to these automatic scholarships, UK offers a variety of other scholarships for prospective students including diversity, departmental, and program scholarships.  A new scholarship database website allows students to explore all of the opportunities available with one easy search.

Students should pay careful attention to the deadlines for these awards.  Click here to find out more information about these scholarships.

The financial aid priority date for returning and transfer students is March 15, 2012.

Prospective transfer students have until June 1, 2012, to turn in their scholarship applications and Aug. 1, 2012, to apply for admission.
