Keeneland Hall Students Study for the Cure

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 6, 2011) — University of Kentucky freshmen Achmad Hidayatullah, Connor Appelman and Devon Wilson have launched UK's first Study for the Cure event in the basement of Keeneland Hall.  The students, who are part of the A&S Wired living-learning community in Keeneland Hall, conceived the idea of raising money for the Kentucky Children's Hospital by gaining sponsors for marathon study sessions.

All Keeneland residents have the opportunity to participate.  The first session was held from 3 p.m. to midnight Sunday, Dec. 4 and attracted 116 students.  The next session will be held from 3 p.m. to midnight Thursday, Dec. 8.

Advanced graduate students will assist Keeneland residents in studying for critical final exams like Math 113 and Chemistry 105 along large tables set up in the Keeneland Hall basement. Snacks are provided by the College of Arts & Sciences.

Participating students are trying to collect one dollar for each hour studied.  Anyone interested in being a sponsor or any Keeneland resident wanting more information can contact Hidayatullah at anhi223@g.uky.edu.  Also learn more from an A&S podcast.

If the Keeneland study-a-thon is successful, Hidayatullah, Appelman and Wilson hope to eventually expand this idea campuswide.

The College of Arts & Sciences launched A&S Wired last fall offering a unique technology infused interactive space that combines education and residence life.
