Lexington Farmers Market @ UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 22, 2012) — Beginning this week and through much of the local growing season, the growers of Lexington Farmers Market will set up their delicious wares every Wednesday afternoon at the University of Kentucky Commonwealth Stadium.

The improvement in UK’s diet is due to the partnership between UK Health & Wellness and the Lexington Farmers Market. In recent years UK ran shuttle buses to the downtown Farmers Market during the summer months. Access has grown. This summer will be the first time local growers will set up kiosks on the UK campus to sell fresh produce. Lexington Farmers Market @ UK is open to everyone in the UK community, Lexington community and beyond.

Lexington Farmers Market @ UK will be open rain or shine from 3-6 p.m. Wednesdays, from May 23 through Aug.15, in the Commonwealth Stadium parking lot, adjacent to University Drive. The only exception is Wednesday, July 4, when the market will be closed for Independence Day. Shop the market for opening day giveaways, from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday. The first 100 customers will receive a free grocery tote.

Shoppers can pay with cash or debit card. Shoppers using debit cards must visit the Lexington Farmers Market table before shopping. A debit card will purchase tokens, which are accepted as payment by the farmers.

Only while the market is open, parking will be available in the Commonwealth Stadium parking lot, adjacent to the market. Or, the following shuttles make stops at Commonwealth Stadium:

o   CATS summer route

o   Medical Center route
