Markey Research Day Winners Announced

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 23, 2011) — Out of a record 116 scientific poster presentations at yesterday's Markey Cancer Center Research Day, eight were selected for special recognition at the awards ceremony that concluded the day's events.  First- and second-place prizes were awarded in the categories of basic science and clinical/translational science, in both graduate and post-doctoral divisions. First-place winners took home $200; second-place winners received $100. The winning presentations were as follows. BASIC SCIENCE First place, graduate division: Erica Fleishaker, "Zonality of AFP enhancer 3 is regulated by beta-catenin and nuclear receptors ROR alpha and Rev-erbs." Second place, graduate division: Tripti S. Bhattarai, "Golgin-160 binds to the tumor suppressor Par-4 and attenuates its secretion."   First place, post-doctoral division: Min Chen, "S100A4 binds Rhotekin and their cooperative signaling confers tumor invasive phenotype in breast cancer cells."    Second place, post-doctoral division: Yekaterina Zaytseva, "The potential role of de novo lipogenesis in the regulation of cell motility and invasion in colorectal cancer." CLINICAL/TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCE First place, graduate division: Mary Insana Fisher, "A systematic review of the effectiveness of exercise on arm function in breast cancer survivors." Second place, graduate division: Marta Milewska, "Dual inhibition of EGFR and MEK in EGFR-dependent non-small cell lung cancer." First place, post-doctoral division: Jonathan Feddock, "Dose escalation of residual disease in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer using linac-based stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT)." Second place, post-doctoral division: Jessica Jones Croley, "A novel predictive model of breast cancer relapse after standard adjuvant therapy."
