Parking and Transportation Services Announces Employee Permit Calendar Change

LEXINGTON, Ky.  (Feb. 11, 2013) — University of Kentucky Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) is announcing a modification to its employee parking permit calendar. Beginning in 2014, the employee permit calendar will align with the university’s fiscal year, with permits valid from July to June, rather than the current April to March system.

In order to make the transition to the new employee permit cycle, PTS will issue permits for a 15-month period during the 2013-2014 permit year. Permit issuance and renewal will proceed as normal in February and March with permits valid from April 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014. This change will have little effect on customers who use payroll deduction to pay for their permits. However, the 15-month permit cycle in 2013-2014 will result in a higher total permit cost than a typical 12-month permit year. To ease the financial burden on those customers who choose to pay the full amount upfront, PTS will offer a three-month temporary permit to bridge the gap between April 1, 2013 and June 30, 2013, at which time they may purchase a 12-month permit valid through June 30, 2014.

The employee permit calendar change is designed to not only align the permit cycle with the fiscal year, which will allow financial decisions to be integrated into the university’s fiscal decision making during each budget cycle, but to more closely align the employee permit cycle to the student permit cycle and academic calendar.

Employee permit renewal is expected to begin in mid- to late February; more detailed information will be available at that time.
