Part of Woodland Ave. Closes Today; Residence Hall Ribbon Cutting to Impact Parking Friday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 15, 2013) ― Starting today, one lane of the section of Woodland Avenue between Rose Lane and Columbia Avenue will shut down to through traffic, says University of Kentucky Parking and Transportation Services. The project is to support the first phase of the Woodland Glen sanitary sewer project.

Southbound traffic will be detoured using Rose Lane, Rose Street and Columbia Avenue. See a map of the area here: http://www.uky.edu/pts/sites/www.uky.edu.pts/files/enews_images/woodland-glen-sanitary-work.gif.

Woodland Avenue will remain open to northbound traffic. However, the traffic will be routed to the southbound lane. Motorists should expect delays in the area.

This phase is expected to last until late October. Anyone who normally travels in the vicinity should allow extra time for their commute. Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution as they navigate the area.

Meanwhile, the Central I and II Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Ceremonies, scheduled for the morning of Friday, Aug. 16, will impact parking and traffic in the Central Campus area.

Parking in the Fraternity Row lot (R4), located on Hilltop Avenue, will be restricted to event attendees and those individuals with a valid R4 parking permit. Overflow parking for the event will be in the W.T. Young Library visitor parking lot; as a result, parking for library visitors may be limited on Friday morning.

University of Kentucky police officers will be stationed on Hilltop Avenue and Huguelet Avenue to assist with traffic control.

Anyone who normally travels or parks in the vicinity should allow extra time for their morning commute.

Members of the campus community are encouraged to tune into 1700 AM (WQKH 253) to hear campus parking and transportation information. The station, operated by UK Parking and Transportation Services, broadcasts 24 hours, seven days a week.
