LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 10, 2009) -- This month, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., both a passionate speaker and part of the legendary Kennedy family, will speak on the importance of environmental and economic awareness to the University of Kentucky campus. The Student Activities Board (SAB) and the Student Sustainability Council (SSC) are proud to bring this dynamic lecture to UK that will be both informative and inspiring.

As part of the Sustainability Lecture Series and a kick off to Big Blue Goes Green, UK's sustainability showcase, Kennedy will deliver “Our Environmental Destiny,” at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Memorial Coliseum on UK's campus with a book signing to follow. The presentation will provide the UK and Lexington community with information on how to become involved global citizens. The hope of the program is to raise awareness about the social movement geared toward saving our planet.

A famed environmental activist and attorney, Kennedy will discuss both the environmental and economic future of our world. He also co-hosts "Ring of Fire" on Air America Radio with Mike Papantonio and has written two books and several articles on environmental issues. His works have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Rolling Stone magazine and others. He also is a contributing blogger to The Huffington Post.

“SAB and the SSC are excited to bring Mr. Kennedy to campus.” said SAB President Corey Ballard. “This topic is timely; we want to empower UK students to rise up and help save our planet.”

We are in the fifth year of our Weston Lecture Series, which was made possible through a generous donation from Mr. Roy F. Weston, a highly accomplished UW-Madison alumnus. Designed to promote a robust understanding of the relationships between global environmental quality, sustainable development and human well being, these lectures are co-sponsored by the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment (SAGE), the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, the Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy (WAGE), and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
