'Tribute to Ballets Russes' Offers UK Employee, Student Discount
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 10, 2013) — In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the "Rite of Spring," the Lexington Ballet presents “Tribute to Ballets Russes” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Lexington Opera House. As in years past, the ballet company is providing a discounted ticket price for University of Kentucky students, faculty and staff. This year, employees will save $3 and students will save $10.
Regarded as the most influential company of the 20th century, Ballets Russes promoted groundbreaking collaborations and completely reinvigorated the art of dance. In 1913, Igor Stravinsky, the composer, and Vaslav Nijinsky, of the Ballets Russes, premiered the "Rite of Spring." The fascination for this work has endured and "The Rite of Spring" is now considered to be one of the most influential musical pieces of the 20th century.
In honor of Ballets Russes and the 100th anniversary of the "Rite of Spring," Luis Dominguez, of the Lexington Ballet Company, and Cesar Leal, of EnVaGe, have crafted a special evening of celebration. Witness "The Rite of Spring," "The Dying Swan," "Afternoon of a Faun" and "Chopiniana" interpreted for audiences of all ages.
