Twitter Chat to Help Students Develop Their Personal Brand

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 1, 2013) — As part of the University of Kentucky’s second installment of Social Media Week, presented by the Student Activities Board and Student Government Association, the UK Social Media Team will give advice to students on how to best present themselves online through "Managing Your Personal Brand Through Social Media: A Twitter Conversation" beginning 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, on UK's Twitter site, www.twitter.com/universityofky.

The "Managing Your Personal Brand Through Social Media" Twitter chat will start at 2 p.m. and continue through 3 p.m., with members of the UK Social Media Team providing information and taking and answering questions on everything students need to know about how to get the most out of their social media accounts.

With social media sites becoming such a large part of the world around us, it’s critical that students be aware just how much impact those sites can have. This immersion of our lives into cyber space has led more and more employers to perform routine checks of applicants’ personal online pages before selecting them to fill positions.

Like it or not, that picture of you from Spring Break your freshman year could have an impact on your professional future.

On the other hand, your Facebook page could be a colorful and unique display of talents that set you above the rest. Your potential employer will “Like” the results.

"Managing Your Personal Brand Through Social Media" is a great opportunity to learn how to use these outlets to their widely unknown potential and all you need is your smart phone or laptop to be a part of the conversation.

Students won’t want to miss out on the advice, which will include everything from things not to do/share to using it to create buzz around yourself and your work as a budding professional.
