UK Events Honor Anniversary of March on Washington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 28, 2013) ― The University of Kentucky commemorates today's 50th anniversary of the historic 1963 March on Washington, D.C. and Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech with two main events today, Wednesday, Aug. 28.  The events are free and open to the public.

A documentary film of the March on Washington will be shown in UK's Martin Luther King, Jr. Center this morning followed by a panel discussion at 2:15 p.m.  UK scholars will discuss the implications of the March on Washington, the current state of U.S. efforts to realize King’s dream, and what UK and other institutions can do to advance that realization.
