WUKY's Phoenix Fridays 2016 Concert Series Finale Aug. 19

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 18, 2016) — The 2016 WUKY's Phoenix Fridays summer series of free, outdoor concerts wraps up Friday, Aug. 19, in Phoenix Park in downtown Lexington. Gates open at 5 p.m., music starts at 5:30 and the performers are Ben Lacey, Nellie Pearl and Vandaveer. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Created by WUKY and produced by the Downtown Lexington Corporation, Phoenix Fridays have taken place the third Friday of each month in May through August for the last three summers. Each features three bands — a combination of local and nationally touring acts. Friday night's concert will be the final show for this summer.

Friday's first act is guitar virtuoso Ben Lacy of Lexington who has performed around the country and internationally.  Having opened for or played with numerous musicians including Blues Traveler, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Shooter Jennings and Bret Michaels, Lacy plays nearly all musical styles.

Nellie Pearl, from Louisville, features vocalist Rachel Lauren Monroe; Jonathon Mitchell on guitar; Gregg Manfredi on upright bass; Christo Foros on percussion; and Alex Peterson on violin and acoustic guitar.  The band performs Americana-roots-rock music.

The headliner, Vandaveer, is a Washington, D.C.-based alternative folk rock duo featuring Mark Charles Heidinger and Rose Guerin. In February, Vandaveer released their fifth LP, "The Wild Mercury."
