Aziz Ansari to Perform as SAB Spring Comedian
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 7, 2014) — The Student Activities Board is proud to announce Spring Comedian Aziz Ansari, who will perform Saturday, March 8 at 8 p.m. in the Singletary Center for the Arts. Ansari is best known as the innovative entrepreneur and quippy government employee Tom Haverford in NBC’s hit series “Parks and Recreation”, and for his stand-up comedy.
Ansari began his stand-up comedy career in New York City at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater. Quickly recognized as one of comedy’s “Hot Standup” artists on Rolling Stone’s annual “Hot List”, the comedian won the 2006 Jury Award for Best Standup at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival. He went on to star in MTV’s sketch series “Human Giant”, and hosted the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Ansari was named one of Entertainment Weekly’s “Breakout TV Stars” and People Magazine’s 2011 “Funniest Dude in Prime Time” for his role as Tom Haverford in “Parks and Recreation.” Most recently, Ansari was named one of Paste Magazine’s “Top 10 Comedians of the Decade” and “the funniest man under 30” by Rolling Stone.
“Aziz Ansari is definitely the comedian of our generation, and his presence in pop culture is incredible,” said Zach Johnson, SAB director of pop culture. “UK students told us they wanted Aziz, and we knew he was the perfect fit for SAB’s Spring Comedian.”
Tickets sold out just three days after becoming available for student purchase.
Past SAB Spring Comedians include Kathy Griffin, Seth Meyers, and Joel McHale. Ansari will join these ranks as the fifth comedian to perform for UK.
SAB brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff, and the greater Lexington community.
