LectureTools Grant Deadline is Oct. 1

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 13, 2013) — In May, Academic Planning, Analytics and Technologies (APAT) announced a new grant program, inviting University of Kentucky faculty to partner with APAT to explore opportunities presented by the use of an active learning platform.

APAT is providing one-year grant funding for the development of courses integrating LectureTools, an interactive, Web-based student response, note-taking and inquiry tool that improves student attentiveness and engagement in lecture. These modified courses will ideally transform classroom interaction and engage students with the instructor via an additional integration of their laptops, tablets and cellphones, regardless of class size.

The first round of grants was awarded at the end of July. A second round of applications will be accepted through Oct. 1. UK full-time and part-time faculty/instructors are encouraged to apply. Additional information and proposal requirements are available for download at http://www.uky.edu/ukit/sites/www.uky.edu.ukit/files/Lecture%20Tools%20Awards%20RFP%20V2_0.pdf.

The first-round recipients will receive $1,500 per course. They are:

  • Dr. Karen Skaff, Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, for the course HSE 101: Survey of Health Professions;
  • Jennifer Cramer and Andrew Byrd, Department of English, College of Arts and Sciences, for the course LIN 211: Introduction to the Study of Language; and
  • Hollie Swanson and Michael Piascik, Department of Molecular and Biomedical Pharmacology, College of Medicinem, for the course PHA 621: Principles of Drug Action.
