LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 20, 2023)  — DanceBlue is participating in the annual Commonwealth Cup fundraiser beginning Jan. 23. The Commonwealth Cup is a fundraising event that unites students throughout Kentucky in support of one cause: raising money to fight pediatric cancer.

In the past, the Commonwealth Cup has been a fundraising drive between the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville dance marathon student organizations. This year, the fundraiser is expanding to include students from Bellarmine University and Western Kentucky University as well. For one week, each school will push fundraising efforts in support of its individual organizations (DanceBlue, RaiseRED, Dance Marathon and Dance Big Red, respectively).

From Jan. 23-27, the Commonwealth Cup fundraiser will take place on each organization’s social media platforms, with daily posts to encourage fundraising and templates for students to use for personal fundraising. All schools are also hosting a fundraiser at their local Raising Cane’s restaurant on Tuesday, Jan. 26. DanceBlue’s restaurant night is from 3-8 p.m. at the Raising Cane’s on S. Upper Street.

This year, in addition to expanding the fundraising event, an in-person reveal of the total amount raised by all four universities will be hosted at the Hardin County Extension Office on Jan. 28 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, at 10 a.m. Members of all four organizations will be in attendance to celebrate the fundraising total.

DanceBlue is a philanthropic student organization at the University of Kentucky that fundraises year-round to support the patients in the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic. To round out fundraising, each year in the spring, UK students gather in Memorial Coliseum to stand for 24 hours in solidarity with the patients at the clinic.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
