LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 23, 2025) — Horticulture is the art or practice of garden cultivation and management. For student garden lovers, the University of Kentucky’s Horticulture Club offers students the opportunity to grow professionally while learning to be good stewards of the land through plant and environmental science.
Alexandra Taylor, a freshman agricultural and medical biotechnology major and the club’s native plant nursery intern, recommends the club to any student interested in nature and plants.
“The club helps you meet some really cool people and get your hands on plants,” Taylor said.
The Horticulture Club provides students with an opportunity to broaden personal and interpersonal perspectives through travel and other club supported activities. Students from any major are encouraged to join the organization and interact with the greater Lexington community, while enjoying plants.
The club regularly holds community plant-related events and provides locals with annual plant sales to support the club and spread the love of gardening. You can learn more information about the next public event or sale on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/UKHorticultureClub/
UK Public Relations and Strategic Communications recently sat down with a few members of the club’s executive committee and an advisor to learn more about UK’s Horticulture Club. Learn more about them and the UK Horticulture Club in the video above.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
