LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 29, 2025) — College can be challenging, and at the University of Kentucky, we want to make sure you get help when you need it. One way UK does that is through the academic alert system.

If your instructor is concerned about your performance, like missed classes or low grades, they may submit an academic alert. This isn’t a punishment — it’s a sign they care and want to help you get back on track.

Here’s what to do if you receive an academic alert:

  1. Talk to your instructor. Reach out as soon as you get the alert. Ask about the concern and what you can do to improve.
  2. Connect with your advisor. Your advisor can help you explore options and connect with resources. Find your advisor in myUK > Student Services > myUK GPS — their name will be on the right side of the page.
  3. Make a plan. Use free campus resources like tutoring and academic coaching. Don’t wait — build these into your weekly routine. Find resources available to your class using the Academic Resources Search Tool.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
