The Nutcracker Comes to Life in UK Chandler Hospital
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 9, 2016) — A sugar plum fairy, band of Chinese dancers and a nutcracker-prince will pirouette into UK Chandler Hospital on Dec. 12, bringing a holiday tradition to patients and patrons of UK HealthCare.
Professional ballerinas with the Kentucky Ballet Theatre will perform excerpts from Act Two of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker in Pavilion A of the hospital at noon on Monday. Act Two of the ballet includes iconic solos, duets and a display of multicultural dances, including the Chinese, Russian and Spanish dances. Dressed in full costume, the ballerinas will perform and interact with audience members during the 50-minute live performance. Artistic director Norbe Risco will lead a conversation about dance. The event is free and open to UK HealthCare staff, visitors and patients.
Kentucky Ballet Theatre is a premier professional ballet company in located Central Kentucky and featuring world-class dancers. The performance was coordinated by the UK Arts in HealthCare program in partnership with Kentucky Ballet Theatre.
