Gordon Lightfoot Taking Singletary Center Stage Again
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 18, 2017) — Legendary folk rock singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot will take the stage again at the University of Kentucky's Singletary Center for the Arts 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Lightfoot, an international folk, country and popular music artist who last played Singletary Center in 2010, came into the spotlight in the 1960s and became an international success on the charts in the 1970s with songs like "Early Morning Rain," "If You Could Read My Mind," "Sundown," “Canadian Railroad Trilogy," "I'm Not Sayin’" and "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." In addition, his work has been recorded by such artists as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, George Hamilton IV, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Harry Belafonte, Sarah McLachlan and John Mellencamp.
Lightfoot has garnered critical acclaim and various awards including 16 Juno Awards, four ASCAP awards and five Grammy nominations. "Sundown" was names pop record of the year in 1974 by the Music Operators of America and in 1980 Lightfoot was named Canadian Male Recording Artist of the Decade.
