LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 30, 2017) A study abroad fair is slated 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, in the Niles Gallery of the Lucille C. Little Fine Arts Library and Learning Center, hosted by University of Kentucky Education Abroad and Exchanges (UK EA) and Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS).

The event is open to all UK students and faculty interested in learning about KIIS education abroad opportunities for summer 2018. At the study abroad fair, students can speak with UK faculty who are leading KIIS programs this summer. Pizza and other giveaways are also available at the fair.

KIIS is a faculty-led nonprofit consortium of colleges and universities in Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, West Virginia, Ohio and New York. It sponsors summer, winter and semester study abroad programs in over 20 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

UK EA and KIIS will award six $100 education abroad scholarships to students who attend the event. Winners will be chosen randomly from a raffle-style drawing. Students will receive a raffle ticket each time they ask a faculty or staff member a question about education abroad programs. They may ask multiple questions/receive multiple tickets to enter, but students can only win once. Winners will be notified the day after event. Additional stipulations will apply.

Students who are interested in additional education abroad scholarships can visit the UK EA's scholarship website.

“There is so much pleasure in learning something new every day, even if it is just one new word in another language,” said Doreen Maloney, a KIIS faculty director and associate professor in the UK School of Art and Visual Studies. “The wonderment that comes from discovery of self, others, places and history and the intense mental work of crafting intellectual and emotional connections makes me feel completely alive.”

While participating in KIIS study abroad programs, students are directed by faculty from KIIS universities and earn transfer credit for courses taken abroad. UK students will take the classes with peers from the region.
