LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 9, 2017) — The University of Kentucky Confucius Institute will team with the UK Arts in HealthCare program to present a free public concert, “Meeting of the East and West in music,” 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in the Albert B. Chandler Hospital's Pavilion A Karpf Auditorium.
This concert will feature musicians Chi-Sun Chan, a noted tuba player and the music director of the GBCCA Chinese Music Ensemble; Shin-Yi Yang, a professional gu qin and guzheng player, and the founder of the Boston Guzheng Ensemble and Boston Qin Society; and a group of Chinese-American dancers from Shuling Studio with Chinese dance by choreographer Shuling Fister.
The concert will also be broadcast to patient rooms in UK Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Children's Hospital.
"Meeting of the East and West in music" hopes to introduce Western audiences to Chinese history and culture through the artistry of Chinese music and dances.

The UK Arts in HealthCare program features local, national and international visual artists and performing artists from across Kentucky, UK’s faculty and staff, and from the world stage. The visual arts, employed in a clinical setting, has been proven to contribute to healing.
