LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 14, 2017) – Each year University of Kentucky's DanceBlue is made possible with the help of smaller events across the state that lead up to the 24-hour dance marathon in the spring. These events are held at elementary, middle and high schools to provide a great sense of community within the Commonwealth. Called mini-marathons in the past, the events now have a new name — DanceBlue Dance Party.

In preparation for DanceBlue 2018, UK staff and faculty are looking forward to the Third Annual Staff & Faculty DanceBlue Dance Party! Previously this event was titled the “Staff & Faculty DanceBlue Mini-Marathon.”

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at the Boone Center.

These smaller events have been highly successful as participants come together “For the Kids” in an effort to support the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic.

The UK Staff & Faculty DanceBlue Dance Party will feature a presentation by the DanceBlue leadership team, as well as the following:

  • Teaching of A line dance
  • Patient stories and video
  • Games and Just Dance video
  • Final Reveal of the total amount of money raised by our UK family
  • “Best Spirit” Prize
  • Food

In addition to the Boone Center, a satellite Dance Party will be held at Alumni Drive.

"We are so excited to have the participants from Alumni Drive again this year as they were able to raise over $2,500 for DanceBlue last year," said William Andrews, Staff & Faculty DanceBlue Dance Party chair.

There are a few ways to participate:

  1. Buy a T-shirt to support the Staff & Faculty DanceBlue Dance Party
  2.  Participate as a dancer or an observer – enjoy fun dancing and free food
    • $10 entry fee for all participants, and observers

Funds can be donated through the website or brought on the day of the event: https://danceblue.networkforgood.com/projects/43008-danceblue-golden-matrix-fund-dance-teams-faculty-and-staff-mini-marathon.

The “Best Spirit” prize will be awarded to the college or unit that raises the most money and will be awarded at the conclusion of the Dance Party. The winner will be invited to attend a special event hosted by President Eli Capilouto.
