The Past Is the Star in Late Night Film Series

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 15, 2014) — The University of Kentucky Late Night Film Series (LNFS) is screening “Paper Moon” at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16.  The series continues Thursday, April 17, with the cult classic “Easy Rider” at 7 p.m. and “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” at 10 p.m.  The LNFS movies are screened in Worsham Theater. Admission to all films is free.

Set during the Great Depression, “Paper Moon” tells of a conman named Moze who finds himself saddled with a young girl, Addie, who may or may not be his daughter. As the two go about deceiving a variety of individuals, they forge an unlikely friendship. (Rated PG, 102 minutes)

Written by Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda and Terry Southern, “Easy Rider” is one of the landmark films of the 1960s counterculture. With the fuzzy goal of reaching New Orleans in time for the Mardi Gras, two bikers (Hopper and Fonda) find much more than the peace-and-love hippie culture they expected along the way. The action takes a turn for the worse when they befriend an ACLU lawyer played by Jack Nicholson. Nicholson received his first Oscar nomination, and the film garnered nominations for best writing, story and screenplay. (Rated R, 95 minutes)

With his glory days as a national news anchor behind him, Ron Burgundy re-enlists the help of his trusty co-anchors to reclaim his stardom at a budding 24-hour news channel, in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”  However, will the antics of Ron, Brick, Champ and Brian be too much for the network’s brass to handle? (Rated PG-13, 119 minutes)
