UK Names Work-Life Supervisor of Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 23, 2011) --  More than 70 University of Kentucky supervisors were nominated by their staff for the 2011 Work-Life Supervisor of the Year Award, making that honor more prestigious than ever before. This year's winner was J. David Hardison, director of the Enterprise Applications Group (EAG) and professor in the College of Dentistry.

He has oversight of the university’s enterprise level systems including SAP that serve the campus and health care units.

Hardison graduated from the UK College of Dentistry in June 1980 and served in the U.S. Public Health Service in Lexington, New York City and Rochester, Minn., before joining the faculty in 1986. In 2000, he completed his MBA at UK and in 2004 became Functional Lead for the SAP implementation effort for the university. As of July 2008, he was appointed as director of the support organization for SAP. He says his greatest professional honor is to be associated with outstanding colleagues at the University of Kentucky; his greatest pleasure, his family.

Finalists for the Supervisor of the Year Award were Kim Griswold Dotson, coordinator of the Targeted Assessment Program; Robert Harmon, chair of the Department of Animal and Food Sciences; Gayle Plank, manager of Nursing Patient Care; and Tracy Steele, supervisor of Outpatient Physical Therapy.

The Supervisor of the Year Award is designed to recognize the following areas of focus for university leaders:

• Enhancement of the quality of work-life in ways that make a significant difference in your area;

• Fair and consistent treatment of staff;

• Clear communication of goals and expectations and holds staff accountable;

• Practices supportive of work-life balance;

• Empowerment; and

• Accountability for thoughtful management of university resources.
