UK Official Receives Top Environmental Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 2, 2009) - University of Kentucky's Vice President for Facilities Management Bob Wiseman recently received an Environmental Commission Award from the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.

[IMAGE1]The 39th Annual Environmental Commission Awards are given to individuals, organizations and businesses that have contributed significantly to the improvement of the local environment, making a difference in our community over the past two years. Wiseman was honored for spearheading UK's sustainability and environmental program projects.

Ten Environmental Commission Awards were presented at the second Green Breakfast, sponsored by the Bluegrass Partnership for a Green Community and the Lexington Environmental Commission.

Wiseman oversees a wide range of activities from the UK Campus Physical Plant, Medical Center Plant, student housing, capital project management and others, managing more than 1,000 employees.

Wiseman was described as a champion of UK’s energy efficiency and sustainability efforts for his entire tenure as vice president for Facilities Management. His recent report of UK's 2008/2009 Sustainability Efforts highlights the university's effort to save energy and become more sustainable while providing the same level of service.

Lexington-Fayette County's Environmental Commission is composed of a group of up to 40 citizens of Fayette County from different council districts. Commission members are appointed by the city's mayor and approved by the Urban County Council for four-year terms. The Environmental Commission was created in 1969 and is funded by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.

The commission seeks to maintain and enhance the distinctive, picturesque environment of Lexington and Fayette County. It initiates and participates in environmental education, awareness and stewardship programs, including presenting annual awards to individuals, organizations or companies for outstanding environmental stewardship.
