A Call on Staff to Help Make a Difference

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 26, 2017) — The University of Kentucky Staff Senate invites the campus community to take an active role in shaping a better experience for staff, students and faculty.

The UK Staff Senate is accepting applications for new senators through Friday, April 28. To be eligible for the Staff Senate candidates must be a regular, full time staff member (FTE of 0.75 or greater) with at least one year of continuous service by April 1, 2017. Visit the Staff Senate webpage for more information.

“Please take a moment to think about helping the university’s staff population through action with us,” said Brittany Begley, program coordinator for the Staff Senate.

“I want UK Staff to know that the gain is directly related to the amount of effort applied. If you are able to put more time and effort into the Senate, the more benefit you will see,” Begley said. “We strive to create a culture on campus where we all come to work, to learn, to teach every day, and be a positive influence, or a force for good.”

The Staff Senate serves staff who need help the most, through support of programs like C.R.I.S.I.S. and the Shared Leave Pool. Committees such as the Work-Life Council, the UK Benefits Committee and the Tobacco-Free Task Force show a commitment to strengthening the well-being of the UK community. The Staff Senate engages with staff through events such as UK Appreciation Day, UK Remembers and the Outstanding Staff Awards. Supporting important causes and organizations such as DanceBlue displays a passion beyond just staff.

“This is a small part of what the Staff Senate does for all of campus,” Begley said.
