College of Public Health to Hold Summer Series on Aging

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 6, 2011) — The University of Kentucky College of Public Health will hold its 28th Annual Summer Series on Aging, one of the premier aging conferences in the nation. The conference will take place June 13-15 at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort and Spa in Lexington.

The focus of the annual conference is to provide a forum for professionals to share the most up-to-date information in geriatrics and gerontology from a broad-based multidisciplinary perspective. During three days of demonstrations, lectures and workshops, participants choose from topics on clinical issues, policy, technology, management, wellness, housing, healthcare and service.

The conference provides innovative and practical information for professionals in case management, education, home health, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, recreation rehabilitation, service provision, social work, state and regional aging planning, and other professions in the field.

Anna Ortigara, director of Communication and Outreach for the Greenhouse Project at NCB Capital Impact funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will be the keynote speaker. Other featured presenters include: Sandy Markwood, chief executive officer of the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging; Dr. Greg Jicha, assistant professor of Neurology in the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and Alzheimer's Disease Center; Deborah Grassman, nurse practitioner at Bay Pines VAMC in St. Petersburg, Florida; and Dr. Clifford Kuhn, also known as The Laugh Doctor, and professor of psychiatry at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
