Election Under Way for Faculty Trustee Position

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 27, 2012) ― University of Kentucky faculty members can now vote for the faculty representative on the UK Board of Trustees to complete the term of Joe Peek, who resigned from the board when leaving the university.  The first round of the online election is under way and will conclude at noon Thursday, Feb. 2.  The voting website is https://sweb.uky.edu/FacTrust/rnominate.php.

The four nominees for the faculty trustee position are: Terry Conners, associate professor, Department of Forestry in the College of Agriculture; Donna Smith, associate professor, Department of Family Sciences in the College of Agriculture; Sheldon Steiner, professor, Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences; and John Wilson, professor, Department of Behavioral Science  in the College of Medicine.  The term of this trustee position will expire June 30, 2013.

“This is a crucial time in our university’s history that requires a strong, well-informed voice of the faculty,” said Hollie Swanson, Senate Council chair.  “We have an outstanding slate of candidates.  I am confident that any of these individuals, if chosen to serve, would prove to be an excellent faculty representative.”

After the first round of voting concludes Feb. 2, the top three candidates will appear on the second round ballot.  The election must meet the timeline of having the new faculty trustee sworn in and able to attend the next scheduled Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 21, 2012.  Full-time faculty members who are at the assistant professor rank or above are eligible to vote.
