BBGG Showcase Needs Your Sustainability Initiative

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 6, 2010) The University of Kentucky's fourth annual Big Blue Goes Green (BBGG) will again feature an interactive showcase of the various sustainability-related initiatives, programs and research on campus.  Big Blue Goes Green will take place in the Frank Harris Grand Ballroom in the Student Center Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to the showcase, UK’s new Office of Sustainability will offer "Sustainability 101: What Every Student Should Know About Sustainability" at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. in the Center Theater of the Student Center. This 25-minute presentation will cover basic principles as well as specific efforts on campus.

The goal of BBGG 2010 is to introduce students, faculty and staff to the wide variety of existing and on-going sustainability-related efforts at UK, and to recognize the work of the individuals and departments or units responsible for these programs.

Finally, the event will highlight ways that any member of the campus community can get involved in UK's sustainability initiatives.

To stage a successful event, the BBGG planning committee is seeking to showcase as many sustainability-related initiatives, programs or research as possible. Tables, chairs and access to electricity (if needed) will be made available. Anyone interested in participating should e-mail sustainable@uky.edu to reserve a space and to request additional information. The deadline for reserving space is Aug. 1, 2010.

Big Blue Goes Green is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Facilities Management in support of UK’s commitment to “be an exemplar in the application of sustainability principles and practices and to establish an institutional culture of sustainability” (See Goal 3, 2009-2014 UK Strategic Plan, http://www.uky.edu/Provost/strategic_planning/plan.htm).
