Brothers to Represent Staff on Board of Trustees

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 7, 2010) - The staff of the University of Kentucky have chosen Sheila Brothers, administrative coordinator for the Office of the Senate Council, to serve as their representative to the Board of Trustees for the next three years.

The UK Staff Senate conducted the primary and general elections for the staff representative to the Board of Trustees. The final round of the election ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 2.

Brothers was elected as the staff trustee with 523 votes. The second candidate, Jann Burks, received 437 votes. Michael Adams also ran in the primary election.

Brothers begins her three-year term of office July 1, 2010, relieving Robynn Pease.

Brothers served as chair of the Staff Senate in 2003-04.

“I am very excited and can’t wait for July 1, to start officially working on behalf of UK’s staff employees," said Brothers. "I’d like to thank both Michael Adams and Jann Burks for being partners in this election – staff employees had a great choice of candidates. I enjoyed getting to know them both, and I know I will be collaborating with the Staff Senate on a regular basis in the coming months.

"The thought of representing over 9,500 fellow staff employees is very humbling, and I am grateful for the show of support during the election from staff employees across the medical center and campus.  I look forward to a productive three years and the opportunity to work with the Staff Senate to push staff governance to new levels.”
