UK Employees, Students Invited to Tour New Patient Care Pavilion

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 14, 2011) University of Kentucky employees and students are invited to tour the new patient care pavilion at the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital prior to its official opening to patients on May 22. Open house events will be held May 13 -16 providing a preview of the new 1.2 million-square-foot facility.
 

All employees, students and members of the community are invited to attend the public dedication ceremony beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15. Local, state and national dignitaries will join UK officials in marking this significant milestone in the history of UK and the Commonwealth. In addition, the new facility will be open for employees, students and members of the general public to tour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, and following the ceremony until 7 p.m. on May 15.
 

Prior to that, an open house/orientation for all UK HealthCare employees and students will be held 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 13, with employees invited to have family members join them for a tour from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. UK HealthCare employees and students also may tour the facility from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 16. On both days, shuttles will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from UK offices on Regency Road, Sterlington Road, and UK Good Samaritan Hospital.

Guests for the May 14 and 15 public events may park for free in the UK Chandler Hospital Parking Garage at South Limestone and Transcript Avene and enter the pavilion from Level C of the garage.  Those attending from on-campus locations may enter the new pavilion via the sidewalk concourse at the existing UK Chandler Hospital entrance on Rose Street.
 

Opening in May will be the atrium and two patient care floors with a total of 128 beds, including 48 in the intensive care unit and 80 for acute care, as well as the lobby, the chapel, a surgical waiting room and a 305-seat auditorium. Overall, the facility is expected to be completed in phases over the next six to 10 years eventually replacing the original UK Chandler Hospital.

The new hospital is paramount in the plan to become a premier regional medical center concentrating on cancer, trauma, neurosciences, organ transplantation and pediatric subspecialties. For more information, please call (859) 323-1530.
