Faculty First Friday Founded

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept 7, 2011) -- The University of Kentucky Council of Endowed Professors and Chairs has organized its inaugural First Friday all-faculty reception to be held Friday, Sept. 9, from 4-6 p.m. in the bar and library area of the Boone Center.

Scheduled as a monthly event, the Council Steering Committee hopes that First Fridays will become a regular part of the way UK faculty members connect. Council members hope faculty will join their colleagues for enlightening conversation, camaraderie and refreshments for the beginning of this new academic year. Graduate, postdoc, or professional students may attend with a faculty colleague.

The council was formed in 2009 by a group of endowed and chaired professors to enhance academic life at UK.

“We engage in a variety of activities that are intended to promote broader awareness of UK faculty, attract and retain outstanding students, and enhance the intellectual and collegial environment for all of us,” said Mary Davis, current presiding secretary of the Council Steering Committee and a member of the College of Law faculty. “We hope that the First Friday faculty reception will become a regular faculty tradition,” she added.
