UK Athletics' DeWayne Peevy Honored by CollegeAD

Washington, D.C. (July 2, 2018) — CollegeAD, an industry resource that delivers news and information in college sports business, has announced that University of Kentucky’s DeWayne Peevy is a 2018 NEXT UP presented by adidas honoree.

“DeWayne Peevy’s ability to communicate with people and bring them together has been very, very helpful to me,” said Mitch Barnhart, athletic director of University of Kentucky. “I always tell people that toughness is about being durable and dependable and he is both of those; and then, understanding the greater good this program has for our state.”

Now in its third year, the mission of NEXT UP is to highlight industry professionals on the rise in athletic departments across the country. The 11 honorees of this year’s class were chosen by a selection committee consisting of sitting Power Five athletic directors, as well as past honorees. CollegeAD’s panel of athletic directors has more than 40-years’ combined experience in the chair of an athletic director,  including several AD of the Year award recipients, College Football Playoff chair, NCAA DI Men's Basketball Committee chair, NCAA DI Leadership Council, and a NACMA Hall of Fame honoree.

Each NEXT UP honoree is a senior level administrator and has not served as an athletic director beyond an interim role. The 2018 NEXT UP presented by adidas class was announced during the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention. NACDA serves as the professional association for those in the field of intercollegiate athletics administration.

"I would say DeWayne Peevy is one of the brightest I’ve been around. I trust him. As a matter of fact, he's the only person I've given my schedule to,” beams UK head basketball coach, John Calipari. “He oversees my schedule. I've never had that outside my office, in all my years of coaching. With him, though, I felt really comfortable.”

Peevy plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of UK’s athletic programs. He joined the university as senior associate athletic director for communications after a stint on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four Media Coordination Committee and eight years at the at the Southeastern Conference.
