UK Employees to Receive Extra Holiday This Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 5, 2018) The University of Kentucky announced last week that it will provide Monday, Dec. 24, as an additional paid holiday this year. To be eligible for this holiday, an employee must be in a regular position with a full-time equivalent (FTE) of 0.5 or greater. UK’s main campus will close for the holiday break after the work day Friday, Dec. 21, and re-open, as planned, Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Employees on the UK HealthCare payroll system and clinical faculty are eligible for the Dec. 24 paid holiday. However, as with other university holidays, clinical operations will remain open on that day. Employees who work on the holiday will be granted time off with pay on another scheduled workday.

Additional holiday details include:

  • An employee in a regular position employed on or before Dec. 24, 2018, with an FTE of 0.5 or greater is entitled to receive the additional holiday (or equivalent time off within a certain time frame — see policy details below) at his or her regular rate of pay.
  • In keeping with university policy on existing holidays, departments should consider any unique staffing needs when scheduling holiday usage.
