22 UK Student-Athletes Named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 4, 2018) The University of Kentucky placed 22 student-athletes on the 2018 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Teams, honoring their athletic and academic achievements, the Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine announced recently.

Inspired by Ashe's commitment to education and excellence on the tennis court, the magazine invites every higher education institution in the country annually to nominate outstanding sports scholars. In addition to athletic ability, nominees must exhibit academic excellence and community activism. To be eligible, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, be at least a sophomore academically and be active on their campuses or in their communities.

Men’s soccer placed four student-athletes on the list to lead the department. Other sports represented are women’s tennis, gymnastics, volleyball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s track and field, football, women’s soccer, baseball, softball, and men’s swimming and diving.
